Welcome to the Evolvepreneur (After Hours) Show

I am your Special Host Mechelle McDonald

Join me today where we dig deep with our guests and get you the best concepts and strategies to fast-track your business.

My very special guest today is Lorraine Ball ...

Lorraine Ball discussed her career journey, from teaching English in Israel after college to starting and eventually selling her own marketing business. A highlight was how she learned the importance of regularly evaluating her business to improve processes and prepare it for a potential sale. This included recognizing which parts only had value to her personally versus what could continue without her. The conversation provided valuable lessons on building a sustainable business and having an exit strategy in place.

Key Moments:

  • Lorraine taught English in Israel after college through a government program modeled after the Peace Corps. She helped students learn English which they still speak with a New York accent.
  • Lorraine discovered her passion for teaching through public speaking to promote her business. She found she would gain customers through presentations.
  • Lorraine sold her successful 19-year-old business when she felt ready for a new challenge. This allowed the business to continue under new ownership.
  • It's important to consider an exit strategy and make a business saleable from an early stage by improving processes and developing valuable client agreements.
  • Lorraine had to adjust to not identifying herself through her business after the sale. She explored new passions and ways to make an impact.
  • A young employee advised Lorraine that raising prices rather than hiring more staff was the better strategy, even though Lorraine initially disagreed.
  • Regularly analyzing a business, even after very successful periods, helps ensure continued growth and relevance.
  • Not all business additions provide value - it's important to critically assess what is useful.
  • Be open to learning from others, regardless of their age or experience. The wisest ideas may not come from where expected.
  • Give passionate people a chance to pursue ideas, even if they didn't previously work out, as the approach may be improved.
